The region of Campania has a
prevalently hilly territory for about 50% of its surface and it confines
with the Tyrrhenian Sea. There are various important islands near the
coast, such as Capri and Ischia. The capital city of the region is
Naples, a very large and populated city, whereas the other provinces of
the region are Salerno, Benevento, Avellino and Caserta.

Tourism is a crucial economic resource of this region which embraces some of the international pearls of tourism, for instance Capri, Ischia and Positano, recognized from the whole globe as unique and beautiful. The Sorrentine Peninsula is also well-known for its climate and for its wine and food resources. Another holiday area which should be seen is Paestum, Pompei and Ercolano, where one can visit the Stabiane thermal baths, the Temple of Neptune and other suggestive places.
Industry in Campania is well developed, especially in the areas of Naples and Salerno. There are many factories for the transformation of agricultural products, in particular tomatoes with preserves, pasta factories, a tradition of this area, and cheeses. In Bagnoli there are important iron and steel, chemical-pharmaceutical and refinement industries. Some artisan trades are famous all over the world, such as the ceramics of Capodimonte or other types of carvings on choral and mother pearl.
Agriculture in the region of Campania is a very active sector, the fertility of some areas gives the opportunity to grow various types of products: fruits and vegetables, sold fresh in many Italian markets or once transformed in jams, conserves and marmalades. The favourable climate of this region enables it to introduce many top products of the line on our national markets. One of the most excellent products is surely the Buffalo Mozzarella of Campania, a typical product of this area appreciated by all food lovers.
