The region of Latium (Lazio) is located in the central part of Italy and it
confines with the
Tyrrhenian
Sea on the western side. Its territory is mainly made up of hills
although it has a small part of mountains and plains. In the territory
of Latium there is also the Tevere, which is one of the most important
rivers in Italy.
The capital city of the region is Rome, known throughout the world as the "eternal city" which is also our Capital City, very important for its history and its monuments which are visited every year by thousands of tourists. Other provinces of the region are: Latina, Rieti, Frosinone and Viterbo. The name of the region derives from the population which lived in it, the ancestors of the ancient Romans, the Latins (Latium). Latium confines with Toscana, Umbria, Marche, Abruzzo, Molise and Campania, apart from the Tyrrhenian Sea.

One of the most important fields of the Latium region and in particular of the capital Rome is tourism which benefits from the monuments and the immense artistic, archaeological, architectural heritage of the capital and also of the close Vatican City, the Holy See of our Pope, also visited by thousands of pilgrims. There are many things to see in Rome, all you need to think of is the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain, the Capitolini Museums, the Vatican museums and galleries, the Borghese Gallery.
Industry is also at a good level although it is not particularly developed and it is present in the construction, paper, clothing and petrol trades, as well as the pharmaceutics, chemical and film sectors.
Agriculture in Latium is based on the growth of olives, wine grapes, cereals such as grain and wheat in the plains areas, besides fruits and vegetables. Grapes, wine and olives used for the oil production are a good resource. As far as wine is concerned, the best areas are the Albani Hills, Terracina and Montefiascone. In this region there are also important breedings of pork and cattle, with particular attention to Buffalos which have precious milk for the production of the famous buffalo mozzarella. Fishing is also a good resource, it is practiced in the Tyrrhenian and Mediterranean Seas, with fishing boats which depart mostly from the Fiumicino, Gaeta and Civitavecchia ports.
