The region of Liguria is located in northern
Italy and its territory is mainly mountainous since it confines in part with the
Liguri Alps (Maritime) and partially with the Apennines.
A vast surface of this
region confines with the Ligure Sea and the coasts are very irregular and
suggestive, concentrating the population mainly around them. The Ligure coast
can be divided in Riviera di Ponente (Western Coast) from Genova towards the
west up to the French border and the Riviera di Levante (Eastern Coast) from
Genova towards the east up to the border with the Toscana region.
The capital city of the region is Genova, the other principal cities are Imperia, La Spezia and Savona.

Tourism in this region is very developed thanks to the great climate, which is mild and temperate, a characteristic which attracts tons of tourists from all over Italy and the world, making tourism one of the main resources of the economy of this region. Liguria is equipped with modern receptive structures and services, such as hotels of all categories, inns and other types of accommodations, for example camp sites. Everything is well kept and managed, aiming at the conservation of the environment which is full of gorgeous sceneries and views of an incomparable beauty.
In Liguria industry is mainly developed in: petrochemical, iron and steel, metallurgic, steel mills, shipyards and food.
Although agriculture is not very developed due to the unfavourable conformation of the territory, there are some crops which represent a good source of income, such as: fruit, olives, wine grapes, vegetables and flowers. Fishing is practiced without much interest. The wine of the Cinque Terre is famous for its exquisiteness, merit of the mild climate throughout the whole year, guaranteed by the warmth of the sea and the mountains which protect this region from the northern currents.
