Lombardy is located on the north-west side of the Italian peninsula.
Its
territory is mainly plains although it is mountainous for about 40%. This region has a great deal of lakes and rivers which have their source
in the northern Alps. The main river is the Po, which is the longest in
Italy, but there are also other important rivers such as the Ticino,
Oglio, Adda and Mincio. A part of the Garda lake is in the territory of
Lombardia, just as other large lakes like the Como Lake, Maggiore Lake,
Lugano, Iseo and Idro Lakes.
The region of Lombardia has many mountains which reach about 4000 meters
such as the tops of some of the Bernina group. The capital city of the
region is Milan, large metropolis and important financial centre, boast
of our economy. Other important province cities are: Brescia, Bergamo,
Monza, Como and Varese.

In the the region of Lombardy there are many good tourist resorts thanks to the mountain structures and the lake basin areas, destination of many Italian and foreign tourists - not to speak about the high number of visits in the artistic cities, first in line Milan, followed by Mantova, Pavia and Bergamo. The mountain resorts which are most famous for their skiing centres are surely Livigno, Bormio, S. Caterina Valfurva, Montecampione, Aprica, Ponte di Legno and Madesimo.
Industry is very well developed in Lombardy, especially in the iron and steel, engineering, chemical and textile sectors, and also in the editorial and food sectors with many active and dynamic industries. Milan is a focus point of the Haute Couture and it is considered the best stage in the world for the most prestigious brands. Agriculture in this region is well developed in all sectors, thanks to the very fertile lands of the Padana Plains, and also to the hard-working population, always equipped with the most modern cultivation means and systems. The main crops are grain and forage, fruits, vegetables, and vineyards. This territory has also many cattle breedings, mostly pork and bovine and the produce derived from it such as milk, cheese and butter, therefore all dairy produce in general is very important, not forgetting the cattle used for meat.
