San Marino is a small Parliamentary Republic located in the Italian territory; its capital is San Marino (4.500 inhabitants), while other cities of the Republic are Serravalle and Borgo Maggiore.
There isn't a head of state here but this role is practically divided between two people: the "Regent Captains" who are in charge for only six months - a real record - and elected by the "Great General Council". The conformation of the territory is mostly hilly with the famous Mount Titan in the centre. San Marino confines directly with two Italian regions, Emilia Romagna and the Marche.

Tourism in San Marino is well developed, every year
many tourists from
all over the world visit it. Most of the tourist
attractions are related to the historic events of the Republic:
fortifications, towers and trenches, which always offer visitors great
sensations. There are also exceptional sceneries which can be enjoyed on
a beautiful day, and even when the weather is not so nice... for example
you might enjoy looking down from Mount Titan and seeing a sea of fog
beneath you, making the mountain appear as an island coming out of
nowhere, creating an excellent setting. The ancient weapon museum may be
visited, as well as the picture gallery-museum of the Church of Saint
Francis, the wax Museum and the vintage car museum.
The Republic of San Marino disposes of a good number
of businesses
which are very active in the mechanical, construction,
ceramic and also in the bank and financial sectors. Commercial exchanges
take place mainly with Italy, besides those with other European
countries and the United States. The currency is the Euro although San
Marino regularly coins its own money, mostly for collectors.
Those who visit San Marino and walk through the
streets of the historic centre,
jam-packed with shops of every sort,
often end up buying things which have little to do with the place they're
visiting. If you would rather buy typical products of the area, we
suggest artisan ceramics or coins and stamps, which can be bought at
Philatelic and Numismatic State office.
