Informations about region Sardinia.

Sardinia region

Sardinia (Sardegna) is one of the largest Italian islands and it is one of the largest regions as well. It is surrounded by the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Sea of Sardegna.

Its territory is about 70% hilly and the rest is divided in plains and mountains.

Other nearby islands are Sant' Antioco, San Pietro and Asinara. The capital city of the region is Cagliari while the other provinces of this special statute region are Nuoro, Oristano and Sassari.

The highest point of Sardegna is Punta La Marmora, to be found in the Gennargentu Mountains (1834).

Tourism in Sardinia

Tourism in Sardinia has a decisive role. The beauties of the landscapes and the crystal clear water offer a little piece of paradise right here in the Italian territory and this is demonstrated by the number of yearly visitors from all over the world.

We must mention at least some of the most beautiful sites on the coast: Porto Rotondo, Cala Gonone, Sant'Antioco and the Costa Smeralda - an elite tourist resort visited by countless famous personalities for its beauty and because it has always been a high trend spot.

The scenery varies from very fine sandy beaches to granite rocks which dive into a turquoise colour sea.

Industry in Sardinia

The traditional industrial activities in Sardinia concern the extraction of carbon, zinc and lead

Agriculture in Sardinia

Agriculture in Sardinia isn't very developed: here they mostly make use of salt and cork, a typical product extracted from the oak trees of this region. Breeding of cattle, pork and traditional sheep, used for both meat and wool, are very active.

Fishing isn't really practised even though the seas are most adequate for such an activity. The production of the extremely appreciated good Sardegna cheeses is also connected with the breeding activity. Beekeeping, with the creation of various varieties of honey, is also practiced.
